Asus Unveils Innovative Dual-Mode OLED Gaming Monitors

Asus has introduced two new 32-inch gaming monitors, the ROG Strix OLED XG32UCWMG and XG32UCWG, poised to challenge existing high-end OLED displays. These models are distinguished by their use of glossy WOLED (White Organic Light Emitting Diode) panels, a first for the monitor market according to Asus. A key feature is their dual-mode functionality: users can select 4K resolution at a 240Hz refresh rate or switch to 1080p resolution with an impressive 480Hz refresh rate optimized for fast-paced competitive gaming.

The displays support HDR10 and offer peak brightness reaching 1,300 nits while covering an extensive 99% of the DCI-P3 color spectrum. To mitigate glare commonly associated with glossy screens, Asus incorporated a TrueBlack Glossy film integrating a zero-haze optical layer and an anti-reflective coating—reducing screen glare by approximately 38% compared to previous generations. This technology contributes to deeper black levels, even in brightly lit environments. Addressing potential text clarity issues inherent in OLED sub-pixel structures, the monitors also feature Asus’s Clear Pixel Edge algorithm.

Connectivity options include dual HDMI 2.1 ports, a DisplayPort 1.4 (DSC) connection, a USB Type-C port with 15W power delivery, three USB 3.2 Gen 1 Type-A ports, and a standard headphone jack. An integrated auto KVM switch facilitates seamless switching between two connected devices using a single input setup. The redesigned stand provides full adjustability—tilt, swivel, and height—while significantly reducing its footprint by 45% compared to earlier ROG OLED models.

To safeguard the OLED panel against burn-in and maximize its lifespan, Asus has incorporated an “OLED Care Pro” suite. This incorporates automated pixel refreshment cycles and image shifting techniques, alongside dynamic brightness adjustments for static on-screen elements. A Neo Proximity sensor automatically dims the display when no user is detected, conserving power and preventing potential panel degradation, then reactivates upon return. Pricing details remain unconfirmed; however, Asus will provide a three-year burn-in warranty with both XG32U series models.
