Google Reportedly Considers Removing Physical SIM Slots from Select Pixel 10 Models

Rumors circulating online suggest a significant shift in design for Google’s upcoming Pixel 10 series, potentially eliminating the physical SIM card tray on certain models. Information shared by tipster Evan Blass on X (formerly Twitter) indicates that the Pixel 10, Pixel 10 Pro, and Pixel 10 Pro XL may transition entirely to eSIM technology. The prospective foldable Pixel 10 Pro Fold is expected to retain a traditional physical SIM slot if the claims prove accurate.
According to Blass’s post, these devices would utilize two active eSIM slots, allowing users to manage multiple digital carrier profiles. While currently unverified, this potential alteration has sparked considerable discussion among consumers on social media platforms. Several observers have voiced reservations about being compelled to adopt eSIM functionality, expressing a preference for retaining the option of a physical SIM card.
Android Central contributors also weighed in on the matter. Brady Snyder expressed frustration with the perceived complexity of eSIM compared to traditional SIMs, while Managing Editor Derrek Lee highlighted its primary utility during international travel.
The prospect of widespread eSIM adoption continues to generate varied opinions and experiences among smartphone users. The validity of this rumor remains to be determined as Google prepares to officially unveil the Pixel 10 series. Separately, earlier reports detailed other alleged specifications for the upcoming devices, including a reiteration of Google’s “Pixelsnap” wireless charging accessory supporting Qi2 technology.
