Indie Horror Title “Zoochosis” Expands to New Platforms Following Initial PC Release

The survival-horror game Zoochosis, developed by Clapperheads, has broadened its availability following a successful initial launch on PC. The title, which debuted September 30, 2024, utilizes a first-person bodycam perspective to immerse players in a terrifying scenario centered around Pine Valley Zoo. Players assume the role of Paul Connelly, a father accepting nighttime employment at the zoo to alleviate financial strain, only to encounter a disturbing parasitic outbreak transforming its animal inhabitants into violent, mutated creatures.
The game’s storyline introduces layers of intrigue, including deceptive practices by the employer—involving experimental parasite injections purportedly for protection—and unsettling connections to government entities, culminating in the discovery of a central “Mother” organism driving the infestation. Zoochosis offers multiple narrative conclusions influenced by player choices regarding who is spared or sacrificed, with an optimal resolution involving a cure for the parasitic infection, neutralization of the antagonist, and public exposure of the conspiracy.
Critical response has been varied. While some publications, such as Rock Paper Shotgun, recognized the game’s inspiration from classic horror films like The Thing, others noted a unique blend reminiscent of “Resident Evil” and Planet Zoo. Certain reviewers and players have expressed concerns about repetitiveness within the gameplay cycle—which includes tasks like animal feeding, diagnostic procedures, and vaccine crafting—although praise has been directed towards the game’s core concept.
A significant update accompanied the launch on PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, and the Epic Games Store on August 25, 2025. This expansion introduced gameplay refinements, additional encounters with mutated animals, and overall performance enhancements. Zoochosis effectively reimagines a commonplace setting—the zoo—as a visceral horror landscape, merging elements of survival strategy and ethical dilemmas to pose a compelling question: can one rescue the institution without succumbing to its perils? The initial reporting on this expansion appeared on GameDaily August 15, 2025.
