KBR Awarded $3.6 Billion NASA Contract for Astronaut Health Services

Engineering firm KBR has been awarded a substantial contract from the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), valued at up to $3.6 billion, to provide comprehensive health support services for astronauts and personnel involved in space missions. The initial agreement, amounting to $2.46 billion, will commence on November 1st and spans five years, with options for two extensions potentially prolonging the partnership until 2035.
The majority of work associated with this significant undertaking will be performed at NASA’s Johnson Space Center in Houston, Texas. The expanded contract builds upon KBR’s existing relationship with the space agency and reinforces its integral role within ongoing spaceflight operations. Under the terms of the agreement, KBR will deliver a range of services encompassing continuous monitoring of crew health, occupational wellness support, and research focused on mitigating risks for astronauts – including those participating in the Artemis program geared toward future lunar exploration endeavors.
“This contract validates KBR’s position as an industry leader within human spaceflight operations,” stated Mark Kavanaugh, KBR president, overseeing defense, intelligence, and space sectors. Following the announcement, KBR shares experienced a 2.7% increase during after-market trading.
