OpenAI Introduces GPT-5, Marking a Significant Advancement in AI Capabilities

Artificial intelligence firm OpenAI announced Thursday the release of its next-generation language model, GPT-5, described by CEO Sam Altman as “a major upgrade” over its predecessor. During a livestream event, Altman reflected on the rapid adoption of ChatGPT since its debut 32 months prior, noting that initial user engagement exceeded expectations with one million users testing the platform during its first week.
The unveiling comes amidst an intensified competition within the technology sector, as industry giants like Google and Microsoft aggressively pursue advancements in artificial intelligence, attracting substantial investment from Wall Street.
Earlier this week, on Tuesday, OpenAI revealed a plan to provide access to ChatGPT for U.S. federal agencies at a cost of $1 annually through a collaborative partnership with the General Services Administration (GSA). This offer follows the GSA’s addition of OpenAI’s AI model to its government procurement system on Monday, streamlining accessibility for governmental entities.
