OpenAI Launches GPT-5 Model Family Through Developer Interface

Artificial intelligence developer OpenAI has introduced a suite of three new language models – GPT-5, GPT-5-mini, and GPT-5-nano – now accessible via its application programming interface (API). The varying model sizes are designed to cater to diverse user needs and computational demands.
While OpenAI previously aimed for a streamlined selection process in the unified GPT-5 system, allowing users greater control over their AI interactions, it continues to offer multiple versions of the technology. A key advancement is ChatGPT’s capability to automatically select and deploy the optimal model for any given prompt, facilitating seamless response generation.
The new GPT-5 models are already powering ChatGPT, which serves approximately 700 million weekly users globally. Developers utilizing the API can access gpt-5, gpt-5-mini, and gpt-5-nano at tiered pricing, ranging from $0.05 to $1.25 per one million input tokens.
