OpenAI Set to Unveil Next-Generation GPT Model in Live Stream Event

OpenAI is scheduled to present its next generation AI model, tentatively referred to as GPT-5, during a live stream event on Thursday. The announcement follows earlier this week when OpenAI CEO Sam Altman hinted at a significant forthcoming development. An official post on the platform X (formerly Twitter) confirmed the livestream’s timing: 10 AM Pacific Time, 1 PM Eastern Time, and 6 PM British Summer Time.
Prior to the formal launch, details about potential GPT-5 models were reportedly leaked on GitHub, suggesting a suite of variants designed for diverse applications. These include “gpt-5,” intended for complex logical tasks; “gpt-5-mini,” geared toward cost efficiency; “gpt-5-nano,” optimized for speed and low latency; and “gpt-5-chat,” tailored for advanced enterprise communication.
Altman has also generated online discussion with the posting of an image depicting a visual resembling the Death Star from Star Wars. When queried by Grok, another AI assistant, regarding the meaning of this image, Grok interpreted it as a symbolic representation of immensely powerful artificial intelligence and its potential risks, aligning with Altman’s previous comments about AI security concerns.
While acknowledging that disclosing comprehensive information within an hour presents a challenge, observers anticipate OpenAI will showcase significant advancements in its chatbot technology. Early speculation, partly gleaned from responses generated by existing ChatGPT models, suggests GPT-5 may feature a unified system, enhanced reasoning and coding capabilities, agentic behavior, extensive context windows, and persistent memory—features that would surpass the capabilities of previous versions.
The information disclosed via GitHub remains unconfirmed pending official verification from OpenAI; however, it underscores the anticipation surrounding this latest development in artificial intelligence.
