Poll Reveals Divided American Opinion on White House Renovations - readd.org 2025

A recent YouGov poll indicates significant public division regarding President Donald Trump’s ongoing renovations and expansions at the White House. The survey, released Thursday after gathering responses from 6,822 U.S. adults, follows announcements detailing ambitious construction projects including a proposed $200 million ballroom spanning approximately 90,000 square feet and accommodating up to 650 guests.

President Trump initially signaled his commitment to these improvements by stating he had allocated his first paycheck towards funding the work. The planned ballroom represents just the latest phase in a series of development initiatives at the official residence.

The poll’s findings reflect a range of perspectives, with 37% of respondents expressing strong disapproval of the renovations. A further 21% indicated uncertainty regarding the projects, while smaller percentages conveyed varying degrees of support; 17% somewhat approve, and 14% strongly approve. An additional 10% also reported some level of approval.

Trump’s activities at the White House have recently drawn attention after he was observed walking on the roof earlier this week, prompting questions from reporters and widespread commentary online. Video footage captured Trump accompanied by a group as he acknowledged the press’s presence. Confronted with inquiries about his rooftop stroll, Trump explained he had simply “taken a little walk” before referencing the planned ballroom, which he has stated will be financed through private donations.
