Samsung Details Battery Performance Estimates for New Galaxy Watch 8

The recently released Samsung Galaxy Watch 8, positioned as an entry-level model in the company’s current smartwatch selection, boasts a range of new features and design refinements. Available in both 40mm and 44mm sizes priced at $349.99 and $379.99 respectively, the wearables incorporate battery capacities of 325mAh and 435mAh, respectively. Notably, Samsung claims a consistent estimated runtime of up to 40 hours for both variations on a single charge, regardless of their differing power cell sizes.
Enabling the always-on display (AOD) functionality reduces this projected longevity to approximately 30 hours. While independent testing of the Galaxy Watch 8 is still underway, reviews of the larger Galaxy Watch 8 Classic—featuring a sole 46mm dial and a 445mAh battery—provide some insights. Samsung’s advertised battery life estimates for the Classic model mirror those of the standard Watch 8. Preliminary assessments of the Classic revealed an average runtime of roughly 25 hours under intensive use, doubling to approximately 50 hours with lighter usage patterns.
Considering that the 44mm Galaxy Watch 8 possesses a battery capacity comparable to that of the Classic, similar performance is anticipated. The smaller 40mm model should also benefit from relatively extended duration between recharges, facilitated by its proportionally smaller display. Most users can anticipate a daily or bi-daily charging cycle with the new smartwatch, consistent with Samsung’s other premium wearable offerings. The introduction of One UI Watch 8 software, paired with a modest increase in battery capacity compared to previous generations, contributes to expectations of enhanced operational duration for the Galaxy Watch 8.
