According to recent reports citing industry insider information, Samsung is considering a design overhaul for its upcoming Galaxy S26 Edge model, potentially resulting in a thinner profile alongside an improved battery capacity. Currently, the Galaxy S25 Edge measures 5.8mm thick, and leaked specifications suggest that the S26 Edge could reduce this to as little as 5.5mm. While seemingly marginal, this reduction would position the device among the thinnest premium smartphones available.

The anticipated launch of Apple’s iPhone 17 Air in the near future elevates the importance of these dimensions; a slight difference in thickness could determine which manufacturer holds the title of “world’s slimmest premium phone.” Traditionally, reducing device thickness has often necessitated compromises in battery life, a crucial consideration for consumers. However, sources indicate that the S26 Edge may incorporate a 4,200mAh battery, an increase from the S25 Edge’s 3,900mAh capacity. Each millihampere-hour (mAh) represents a tangible impact on performance and longevity.

Speculation surrounds whether Samsung will adopt advanced silicon-carbon battery technology; however, following previous incidents involving battery safety, the company has generally favored a cautious approach to this area. The Galaxy S lineup’s structure – typically comprising an Ultra model, a standard edition, and previously a Plus variant—appears poised for adjustments with the Edge line offering a distinctive design element and the potential phasing out of the Plus designation.

Separately, another leak indicates that the standard S26 may be rebranded as the Samsung Galaxy S26 Pro, seemingly to harmonize the device’s nomenclature with prevailing industry trends.
