Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 Faces Significant Repair Challenges

Samsung’s Galaxy Z Fold 7 Faces Significant Repair Challenges - readd.org 2025

A detailed examination of Samsung’s newest foldable phone, the Galaxy Z Fold 7, has revealed substantial hurdles for potential repairs, according to a recent teardown analysis by iFixit. The video assessment, reported on by 9to5Google, highlights design choices that significantly complicate even basic repair procedures.

Initially, technicians encountered issues with removing the device’s flexible display due to Samsung’s implementation of “heatless back panel removal,” necessitating alternative entry points near the camera module. Further disassembly proved equally complex, as iFixit navigated a convoluted route to access the internal components. The teardown uncovered a camera assembly structured similarly to other Samsung models, meaning a comprehensive device disassembly is required for even seemingly isolated camera failures.

Replacing the Z Fold 7’s inner display presents a particularly costly proposition, with iFixit estimating a consumer expense of $589. The overall repairability score landed at a low 3 out of 10, reflecting the inherent difficulties in servicing the device.

The challenges encountered during this teardown echo iFixit’s decision last year to discontinue partnerships with Samsung. Citing misalignment between their commitment to consumer-friendly repairs and Samsung’s design practices—specifically, an extensive use of glued components—iFixit explained that providing affordable replacement parts became unsustainable. The company previously described Samsung devices as being “glued together,” hindering access and driving up costs.

The analysis follows reports from other users, including journalist Andrew Myrick, who documented difficulties in obtaining repairs for a Galaxy Z Fold 4. While iFixit will continue to attempt sourcing components where possible, they have ceased creating detailed repair guides for Samsung products.
