Sony Legal Action Prompts Overhaul of Tencent’s “Light of Motiram”

Following a lawsuit filed last week, Chinese technology giant Tencent has begun altering its upcoming game, “Light of Motiram,” in response to accusations that it closely mirrored Sony Interactive Entertainment’s acclaimed “Horizon” franchise. The legal action stemmed from concerns over the similarities between “Polaris Quest,” the developer behind “Light of Motiram,” and the popular PlayStation series.
Observers noted significant modifications to the game’s Steam page, signaling an attempt to distance the project from perceived resemblances to “Horizon.” These alterations include a revised selection of promotional screenshots, newly commissioned key art, an announced release timeframe, and a substantially reworked description of the gameplay experience.
Previously, the Steam page described “Light of Motiram” as featuring exploration of a vast open world populated by colossal machines, base building, technological advancement, training mechanized creatures (Mechanimals), and encounters with powerful adversaries – all starting from a primitive era to chart a new developmental trajectory. The revised description now emphasizes survival challenges and strategic resource utilization against formidable bosses in a perilous environment, highlighting the need for resilience and ingenuity.
While details regarding Sony’s ongoing lawsuit remain limited, the adjustments made to “Light of Motiram’s” Steam presence are widely interpreted as a direct reaction to the intellectual property infringement claims.
