Tencent Survival Game Light of Motiram Substantially Alters Steam Presence Amidst Sony Lawsuit, Pushes Release Date to 2027

Following a lawsuit filed by Sony, Tencent has significantly revised the online presence of its upcoming survival game, Light of Motiram, and delayed its release to late 2027. The changes, observed over recent days on the Steam storefront, come after the game’s initial reveal in late 2024 sparked comparisons to Sony’s popular Horizon franchise.
Sony initiated legal action against Tencent, parent company of Polaris Quest—the studio developing Light of Motiram—claiming the game constituted an unauthorized replication of its Horizon series. Initially, the Steam page for Light of Motiram featured descriptions and imagery that closely mirrored elements from Horizon: Zero Dawn, prompting speculation regarding potential copyright infringement.
Recent updates to the Steam listing have drastically altered the game’s presentation. Previously, promotional materials highlighted features such as base building, technological advancement, and interactions with creatures termed “mechanimals,” framing the experience within a world dominated by colossal machines. Detailed sections describing the game’s setting—a “mechanimal-ruled open world” replete with ruins and unique fauna—have been removed entirely. The phrase “mechanical wilderness” has also been replaced with a simpler descriptor, “wilderness.”
Tencent was contacted for comment on the modifications but had not responded at the time of publication.
